the only thing better than working at starbucks is working at starbucks in the fall. i love it here. i've been at our store for about 4 months, just long enough to kinda know two thirds of my customers. (that doesn't include the large number that i didn't already know - gresham is a small world.)
there's the cool, slightly hippyish guy who gets a decaf mocha - he repairs old vws for a living. how cool is that? and little kaylie who spends a lot of time with her grandma at the dog grooming place next door. iced venti decaf no foam no whip no espresso americano (i.e. ice water) and a big smile. and chuck, who comes in every morning at 5:30 and wakes us up very effectively.
i even like the cleaning, and the dusting. there's something so refreshing about leaving my computer screen-dominated home businesses and living in the moment for a while.
plus, i steam up a mean foam.

"poorly managed diagonal dynamism"
also subtitled:
"a passable example of the freakishly boring rule of thirds"
also subtitled:
"we should have named her 'borg'."
why so surprised?

why are we always so surprised when God answers prayer?
last sunday, 6-8 of us gathered in the little prayer room at endeavor church at 9:15, and prayed that God's love would shine in our little community, and that people who needed to know Him would be drawn close. not by rock star worship, delicious lattes, or any magnetic up-front personality, but through simple love. why would we be surprised when God answered that prayer?
it seems that every week, more people from the homeless community in rockwood are woven into the fabric of endeavor. last week, a girl who had recently been in a difficult situation was at safeway when she knew that God was calling her to a nearby church. she had no idea that we were right behind the safeway! she came on sunday morning, and after church we carpooled to the sandy river to baptize our new sister!
